Jakob Tensegrity Torus
The challenge of exploring the fringe of our capabilities prompted us to plan and build this one-of-a-kind construct: the Jakob Tensegrity Torus, a highly complex structure consisting of rods and wire rope. Swiss architect Filippo Broggini was commissioned with the draft. The production and assembly work was handled by Jakob employees in the course of 6 years. The initiative acquainted us with the limits of technical feasibility. Testing frontiers encourages us to rethink long-standing empirical insights and established processes. Not rarely, this results in new approaches that allow traditional concepts to be improved. We are convinced that our customers will benefit from the experience we have accrued with this project.

Jakob Rope Systems acquires Habegger Thun
In 2016, Jakob Rope Systems acquired the venerable company Habegger AG from Thun. The two companies, both globally active, optimally complement each other with respect to their product lines and the corporate culture. There will be no changes as regards the premises and the jobs at Habegger Maschinenfabrik AG in Thun. The popular Habegger multi-purpose hoist requires top-tier wire ropes. For former owner and CEO Peter Habegger, it was therefore a natural decision to sell the company to Jakob AG within the scope of a long-term successorship plan.
‘For us, Habegger is a perfect match,’ noted Peter Jakob, the CEO of Jakob Rope Systems. The two companies already have an overlapping customer base. ‘We can develop new products, extend the product line, and expand exports of high-end Swiss products. We believe in Switzerland as an industrial hub and in “Swiss Made” as a persuasive seal of quality,’ Jakob added.
