Webnet aviary in Goldau Zoo

2900 square meters of Webnet for a spacious habitat for various bird species. The aviary takes into account the uneven terrain in Goldau with its huge boulders.

A large habitat for different bird species. The aviary in the Goldau Zoo is up to 18 meters high and is spanned by 2900 square meters of Webnet. Almost half of a football field. Ravens, eagle owls and hawk owls and other birds live under the stainless steel net from Jakob Rope Systems.

Our Webnet (sleeveless) at the Goldau Zoo counts around 2.6 million knots. To ensure that the aviary can withstand the pressure of snow and wind, 66 foundations were built and anchored in the ground with piles. 150 ropes were used for the bracing. The strongest rope has a diameter of 46 millimeters.

The construction of the Webnet aviary is a special design. It takes into account the uneven terrain in Goldau with its huge boulders. In addition to two main pylons, the remaining support pylons for the nets are on ball joints. The entire construction is braced with a complex rope system.
