Saas-Fee Panorama bridge

The Panorama Bridge in Saas-Fee has been equipped with a fall protection system made of Webnet stainless steel rope nets from Jakob Rope Systems. The delicate construction ensures a high level of safety in the alpine environment while remaining visually discreet.

Initial situation and concept

The Panorama Bridge in the center of Saas-Fee is an asphalted pedestrian and electric vehicle bridge. At an altitude of approximately 1,800 meters above sea level, it spans the Feevispa gorge at a height of about 40 to 50 meters above the valley floor.

The exposed location in the high alpine region places particular demands on safety, durability, and weather resistance. For the bridge safety concept, 22 Webnet stainless steel rope nets were used as passive horizontal fall protection.

The sleeveless Webnet, with an 8-millimeter rope diameter and a 200-millimeter mesh size, combines high transparency with reliable protection. The delicate structure integrates discreetly into the alpine environment and preserves the unobstructed views of the landscape.

Construction and implementation

The structural design of the anchors as well as the edge and suspension ropes was tailored to the loads acting in the vicinity of the bridge. In total, approximately 20 tons of steel, 120 ropes, 36 rods, and 22 stainless steel nets were used.

Jakob Rope Systems was responsible for the planning, manufacturing, delivery, and installation of the cable and net systems in close collaboration with the engineers from Pfeifer.
