A monumental chandelier with Jakob cables

La Mantille Paris

With a height of 32 metres and a weight of 32 tonnes, this steel and glass structure is somewhat bigger and heavier than usual chandeliers.

The monumental chandelier is located inside a new office building in central Paris. The architects wanted to bring the clarity and transparency of the building to the fore. The gigantic structure spans eight storeys, from the ground floor to the roof with a terrace offering a 360° view over Paris.

To guarantee the structure's light and elegant character, the engineers used steel cables and attached a veil of glass medallions. On the ground, a steel ring with 15 metres diameter tensions the cables. The glass disks on the veil and on the ground reflect the sun light and illuminate the interior of the building.
