ASI Reisen head office: Webnet as a trellis structure

Initial situation and concept

The main building of the Austrian travel agency ASI Reisen perfectly embodies the company’s philosophy: to enable sustainable experiences in nature. Nestled in the green landscape, the four-story building impresses with its sustainability and a modern energy concept.

An important part of the concept is the green façade that wraps around the entire building. Webnet from Jakob Rope Systems makes this possible. Different types of stainless steel mesh form the climbing support for the greenings. Tubular frames were integrated into the mesh as windows. The project was planned and implemented by Seilerei Wüstner.

The custom-designed greening concept is unique. Seventeen different plant species provide a year-round display of color. The changing colors also serve a practical purpose: the plants shed their foliage in response to shifting climatic conditions. In summer, they provide shade and privacy in front of the glass facade. The microclimate created by the greenery insulates the building and reduces energy consumption for air conditioning. In winter, the dwindling foliage allows valuable sunlight into the office. Some evergreen plants even offer a view of greenery during the cold season.

Construction and implementation

To achieve the perfect trellis structure for the facade’s various purposes, different types of Webnet are used here. The perimeter nets feature a tighter, horizontal mesh in the lower section.

Starting at a height of one meter, the mesh openings become larger and the net runs vertically. This allows for both a denser trellis structure in the lower section and a clearer view at eye level. The sleeveless Webnet used here ensures maximum light transmission.

On the roof, a Webnet with sleeves ensures safety on the terrace.
