Webnet suspension bridge in Disentis/Mustér

Graubünden's longest suspension bridge has a span of almost 300 meters. The ARGE Jakob Rope Systems / Pfeifer / Von Rotz & Wiedemar AG has successfully completed the planning, execution and assembly. The filigree construction blends harmoniously into the protected landscape. An innovative bracing structure ensures stability and safety.

Initial situation and concept:

The suspension bridge near Disentis/Mustér combines material efficiency with a sensitive embedding in the protected landscape. Thanks to modern calculation methods and innovative design, the structure has been optimized down to the last detail. Its flat shape blends harmoniously into the alpine environment and embodies precision and innovation from private initiative - engineering at the highest level.

Realized through private initiative and great commitment, “La pendenta” safely connects the municipality of Disentis with the hamlet of Mumpé Medel all year round. The structure creates more than just a connection. It is a symbol of cohesion and community that inspires and captivates people.

Construction and implementation:

The bridge structure is based on an innovative, parametrically optimized concept that combines aesthetics, engineering and landscape protection. The intelligent design integrates numerous elements directly into the static structure. The wire rope net also serves both as fall protection and an active load-bearing element, which enables a resource-saving construction method. The abutments fit sensitively into the alpine landscape and the context of the Sontga Gada church, which is worth protecting.

A load test, unique in Switzerland, confirmed the precision of the engineering planning and underlines the innovative spirit behind the project. “La pendenta” not only improves local mobility, but also restages historic traffic routes and promotes sustainable tourism.

Bridge structure: 4 load-bearing ropes (Ø 45 mm, VVS) below the walking level; 2 load-bearing ropes (Ø 45 mm, VVS) at handrail level
Bracing structure: 2 wind ropes (Ø 30,9 mm, OSS), coupling ropes Ø 12 – 19 mm
Railing infill: Webnet, 2 mm rope diameter, 60 mm mesh width, vertical meshes
