Colored ropes secure staircase in Canada

Jakob stainless steel ropes and a little more color create a unique example that safety barriers don't have to be boring. Our Canadian partner "Rope and Cable Canada" supported this project.

What a creative solution for McMaster University in Canada. Our Canadian partner "Rope and Cable Canada" solved the retrofitted security of a staircase railing with colored stainless steel ropes. The Jakob ropes used here and a little more color are a successful example that safety barriers don't have to be boring.

The realized project is a retrofit on a building to adapt the staircase to current safety regulations. The design incorporates the colors of McMaster University, giving the stairwell a special architectural highlight.

The design and planning for this project came from the architects Diamond Schmitt. The metalwork was carried out by Sixpenny (Toronto), a company specialized in high-end metalworking. The Jakob stainless steel ropes installed in this project cover a total length of 5011 meters. Each of the ropes is 5 millimeters thick. Six different RAL colors were used.
